LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 38-year-old Westville man is facing OWI charges after he allegedly driving a tractor late Tuesday night and crashing into several mailboxes.

The La Porte County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to C.R. 100 North and Otis Road around 11:10 p.m., for a crash involving a tractor.

The investigation determined that Daniel J. Krupa was driving a 1975 John Deere 4430 tractor while pulling a 2017 New Holland implement. 

Authorities say the farm implement had significant damage, including missing a wheel and a broken PTO shaft. 

A witness told deputies the tractor crashed into several mailboxes in the area.

Deputies say Krupa showed signs of impairment.

Authorities administered a series of standardized field sobriety tests after which Krupa was taken into custody. 

Krupa was then taken to the La Porte County Jail.

Krupa is charged with OWI – Endangerment, a Class A Misdemeanor, and OWI, a Class C Misdemeanor. 

Krupa remains in jail held on a $900 cash bond.
