UPDATE: Man arrested after State Street shooting in Elkhart, victim still in critical condition

UPDATE THREE: Court documents show 51-year-old Charles Wolfe was arrested in connection to this case.

Officials say officers found the at an apartment on 413 State Street. Witnesses allegedly told officers that the victim and Wolfe, who lived in an apartment at the same address, got into a fight in front of the building. Documents show Wolfe allegedly went back into his apartment, re-emerged with a gun, and shot the victim twice.

Investigators say cellphone video captured by on the scene is consistent with witness testimony.

Wolfe allegedly later told officers he confronted the victim over a noise issues. He also allegedly told officers he went back into his own, grabbed a handgun, and fired at the victim.

Wolfe allegedly told investigators he knew he was not allowed to own a gun because of a prior felony conviction. Documents show he pled guilty to cocaine possession in 1999 and was sentenced to 30 years.

The victim is listed as being in critical but stable condition.

UPDATE TWO: The Elkhart Police Department arrested a suspect Wednesday morning in connection with Tuesday's State Street shooting.

The suspect was booked in Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges, though his name will not be released until a judicial officer finds probable cause for the arrest.

Additionally, while the 54-year-old victim remains in critical condition, the department has announced that his injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.

UPDATE: The Elkhart Police Department is actively investigating a shooting that happened around 7:22 p.m. Tuesday evening in the 400 block of State Street in Elkhart. 

Upon arrival, officers located an adult man suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Elkhart Fire Department medics treated the man on scene, and he was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries. 

Officers collected evidence at the scene and there have been no arrests made at this time.
