Silver Beach ends 'pay upon exit' parking trial amongst long lines and complaints

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Berrien County Parks and Recreation has announced the end of their recent "pay upon exit" parking trial at Silver Beach amongst long lines, customer service complaints, and loss of parking revenue.

Parks officials add another component is safety of the county park staff and public.

In a letter from Berrien County Parks, officials say several critical issues were observed and documented during the five-day trial.

They add representatives from Walker Consultants gathered additional data and feedback that will assist in long-term planning.

Officials say the consultants said for "pay upon exit" plan to effectively work, infrastructure investments are needed.

Officials say the plan will remain a valid option to review for increasing efficiencies within the county park, along with the recommended infrastructure and technology upgrades to make it feasible.

Berrien County Parks invested $19,500 to work with Walker Consultants.
