UPDATE: I&M estimates full power restoration by 11 p.m. Tuesday for South Bend, Elkhart, Buchanan, Benton Harbor

UPDATE: As of 1 p.m. Monday, I&M officials say crews have successfully restored power to over 18,000 customers, bringing customer outages down to around 42,000.

At the peak, officials say there were around 60,000 customers without power.

Officials say the estimated restoration time remains at 11 p.m. Tuesday for 90 percent of their customers.

After the damage assessment is complete, officials say crews will work on individual outages, and an estimated time of restoration will be communicated to customers.

ORIGINAL STORY: I&M officials say an estimated 47,913 customers remain without power Monday morning in South Bend and Elkhart areas as well as Buchanan, Benton Harbor and Three Rivers areas.

Officials say the estimated restoration time is when crews expect the entire area to be restored, but most customers will have power before the estimated time.

Severe weather came through Michiana causing major power outages across several counties.

Indiana Michigan Power announced Sunday night that 900 I&M workers damage assessors, tree trimming crews, contractors, and other support staff were working to restore power to more than 60,000 customers without power as of 8 p.m.

I&M officials say most customers without power are in the hard-hit areas of South Bend and Elkhart and Buchanan and Three Rivers.

Officials also said over 1,100 mutual assistance personnel would arrive overnight and into Monday morning.

The help comes from AEP's sister company, Appalachian Power Company, while other crews will arrive from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, Virginia and Alabama.

I&M stated crews would work through the night to restore power where possible.
