UPDATE: Armed suspect near IUSB now in custody
TUESDAY UPDATE: The SBPD Violent Crimes Unit has confirmed the suspect is in custody and there is no longer an active threat.
The investigation is ongoing.
UPDATE THREE: SBPD officers were informed that the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm before entering a vehicle. Shortly afterward, the vehicle was reported to have crashed near Northside Boulevard and Clover Street. Witnesses reported the driver exited the vehicle, fired more shots, and then fled the scene. Multiple officers, including drones and a K9 unit, helped search for the suspect.
As of 11:30 p.m., no injuries from gunfire have been reported. Authorities continue to search for the suspect and investigate the incident. Due to its proximity to Indiana University South Bend, the campus initially issued a shelter-in-place alert, which has now been lifted.

UPDATE TWO: IUSB campus clear, SBPD still searching for suspect as of 10:17 p.m.
UPDATE: As of 9:26 p.m., South Bend PD continues searching for an armed white male subject near Veterans Memorial Park. The public is still urged to avoid the area and contiune ot shelter in place.
ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- South Bend Police are responding to reports of an armed person near IUSB. Students and staff have been told to shelter in place while police search the area.
On Monday, September 22, just after 8 p.m., South Bend Police arrived at the 1000 block of S. 23rd Street to investigate a potential domestic disturbance. Officers learned that at least one shot might have been fired by the suspect. No injuries have been reported so far.
The scene is still active, and the public is urged to avoid the area. ABC57 will update as more information becomes available.
