SBFD responds to fire at Prairie Apartments

UPDATE: SBFD reports firefighters responded to a structure fire at the Prairie Apartments just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from a first-floor unit and confirmed a working fire.

Firefighters immediately began a search and fire attack operations.

Officials say the fire began on the first floor before extending into the attic.

One person was found and removed from the unit where the fire started.

Resuscitation efforts began on-scene before the individual was taken to Memorial Hospital.

Their condition is currently unknown.

Two other residents were evaluated on scene by medics.

Fire officials say at least four apartment units were affected, and the American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.

No firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
