State Sen. Mike Bohacek to introduce medical marijuana proposal
MGN INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana State Senator Mike Bohacek is working on legislation that could legalize medical marijuana in Indiana.
Bohacek announced that the legislation would be introduced in 2027. The legislation would include establishing medical parameters, as well as establishing tax and distribution policy. In a statement, Bohacek says this was inspired by the federal re-classification of state-licensed medical marijuana as a less-dangerous Schedule III substance. He also cited Gov. Mike Braun's recent statements that he would be open to medical marijuana discussions following the re-classification.
The legislation would also update Indiana impairment laws. This would include defining the blood concentration that would define impairment, as well as create training for law enforcement.
