R.A.D. program helping to teach self-defense in Michiana
BUCHANAN, Mich. -- The R.A.D. program or rape aggression defense systems teaches people how to defend themselves in dangerous situations.
A couple times a year, Buchanan Police Department has R.A.D. classes that span over three days teaching you how to protect yourself in many ways. The program is free and anyone is welcome to attend after you pre-register for the course.
This course is not a one and done. You can revisit the free classes whenever they pop up in the area, and you can also take some of the other courses offered like how to use pepper spray or protect yourself with your car keys.
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center one in five women in the US will experience rape or an attempt in their lifetime. 81 percent of women nationwide report sexual harassment or assault as do 43 percent of men. This course in Buchanan aims to turn that around by offering these free courses to not only boost confidence but also to help individuals protect themselves during dangerous situations.
