ELKHART, Ind. -- Nicholas Stanley is set to go on trial in the murder of a registered sex offender in Elkhart who allegedly molested one of Stanley's young relatives.
Stanley confessed to the crime during a jailhouse interview with ABC57's Annie Kate, saying he shot Allen Cogswell because Cogswell got out of prison early and was back in Elkhart. Last month, just a month before his trial, Stanley hired a new attorney.
Elkhart Circuit Court judge Michael Christofeno held a closed-door meeting with Stanley's new lawyer and Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Becker who filed a sealed motion for the closed-door discussion in the judge's chambers.
Another pre-trial hearing set for September 15, and the trial begins September 21.
