SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Today June 13, The South Bend Police Department had 13 officers honored by Quilts of Valor with a presentation of quilts made for them to serve as comfort and for their dedication in serving in the military, and as members of the police department.
"We're not here for accolades. Well, you know, a simple thank you will do but to have this honor bestowed upon us, it does mean a lot to me to know that I've served my country, but also, I'm currently serving my community," says Tony Pacheco former Marine and current South Bend police officer.
"It's an honor to be able to thank the people who have signed a contract to do whatever is called for the country. And it's just a small honor that that we can do," says Erica Broecker a Quilt of Valor representative. "Every bit of it is done with love. And we hope that they're used all the time, because we want the veterans to know that their country appreciates what they've done."
