Plane down near Elkhart-St. Joseph County line

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A small plane went down near County Road 12 and Ash Road in Elkhart County around 11 a.m. Thursday.

The pilot was identified as 32-year-old Stacey Jo Lutes of Shipshewana.

Lutes didn't want to speak on camera but told ABC57 that they were flying to enjoy the day when she felt the engine riding rough.

Lutes said she looked for an open field and landed the 1947 Piper PA12 in an open field.

She landed the plane without causing any damage to the plane or injuring anyone.

The passenger in the plane, the plane's owner, said she did exactly what she was supposed to do in that type of situation.

The FAA will investigate.
