Notre Dame continues win streak with 49-14 over previously undefeated Army
BRONX, NY-- The Irish coast to nine consecutive wins with the help of Jeremiyah Love’s three touchdowns.
In week 11 of the season, Notre Dame wasted no time against undefeated Army. On their first drive, led by quarterback Riley Leonard, the offense went five plays for 68 yards, resulting in Jordan Faison's first touchdown of the season on a 28 yard reception.
"We knew we had to score offensively, because their offense not only is efficient at what it does, but it keeps the ball right," Head Coach Marcus Freeman said.
Following a blocked punt by Bryce Young, Jeremiyah Love earned his first of three touchdowns on the night on a 6 yard reception. Love would end the night with 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
"We're coached to start off the game fast as well. So, once we get in, you know, into the game, and get into our flow. I mean, the offensive line is doing her thing and executing every single play and shoot, that just helps me and all the other backs, shine and we're making each other look good, and that's how it's supposed to be," Love said
"We knew we had to try to put some pressure on them offensively and try to get them behind in the score. Our offense was efficient. They did a good job. We got to be better. We can't leave points on the board," Freeman added.
The Irish gave up their first touchdown to the Black Knights with 13 minutes to go in the second quarter, allowing Bryson Daily to reach the end zone for his first of two touchdowns. Daily also rushed for 130 yards.
The defense did a really good job at doing that (stopping Bryson Daily). The thing that hurts you is the one touchdown drive, I think in the first half, you have three penalties. Nobody's happy about that, right? That's a reminder that don't beat Notre Dame. That drive, there's three penalties that led to seven points.
Besides Daily's production, Notre Dame held Army to 233 yards of total offense. Daily had only had 51 pass attempts coming into the game. He went 4-8 passing for 26 yards against the Irish defense. Notre Dame, proving to remain one of, if not the best defense in the country.
"I would just say just being disciplined like that was just the mindset all week. Be disciplined, know your keys, and kind of just play with play with just great effort. I feel like our effort was the reason why we were able to play the way we do and just listen to our coaches and trust in their process, Defensive Back Adon Shuler mentioned.
