NOW: Notre Dame looks to revenge 2022 loss at home vs Stanford

SOUTH BEND, Ind -- The Irish will host Stanford for the 38th overall meeting in their annual rivalry matchup for the Legends Trophy.

When it comes to Stanford, Notre Dame holds the advantage in the win column 23-14. But there's one loss the Irish can't shake.

October 15, 2022, Stanford walked into Notre Dame Stadium 1-4. They left with a record of 2-4 after a 16-14 win.

Fast forward to 2024, almost two years later to the exact date, Notre Dame is on a mission, even if they won't admit it and last year's 56-23 win in Palo Alto, California doesn't make up for it.

"Nothing's different. Just expect everything and be ready for everything, despite what they throw at us," Graduate Senior Defensive Lineman Howard Cross said.

That's the mindset of the Irish going into game six, but does this team want to get their lick back after the upset in 2022?

"It ain't really been talking about, you know, getting our lick back," Sophomore Running Back Jeremiyah Love said.

"But we have, you know, taking into account that you're not letting up that many rushing yards. I mean, we analyze anything we play, and we look at all that stuff," Love added.

"They're really good against the run. And, you know, they don't, they do a great job of kind of outnumbering you near the line of scrimmage and making sure they've got guys in positions to make plays," Offensive Coordinator Mike Denbrock said.

Regardless of the x's and o's, it comes down to being 1-0 after each game.

"Ultimately, you know, you want to learn from your losses, you know what I'm saying. But we're a new team, you know, and we just want to win every week, you know what I'm saying. We want to win every matchup we have, whether we lost to them a year ago, whether we beat him a year ago, we Notre Dame. We know we don't get everybody's best, but everybody's gonna get our best as well," Graduate Senior Jordan Clark added.
