Niles-Buchanan YMCA Turkey Run continues to see record participants
NILES, Mich. -- The Niles-Buchanan YMCA will be holding its annual Turkey Run again this year on Thanksgiving Day inviting families and individuals to join either in person, or virtually.
Organizers say the event is one of only 25 Thanksgiving Day races in the United States with over 1,000 participants.
"In 2023 we hit a record number of runners with a total of 2,759 participants," shared Jill Haboush, YMCA of Greater Michiana's Race Director and Chief Development Officer.
"We are thrilled to be setting new records and eagerly anticipate hitting a new record this year welcoming all to downtown Niles. The growing excitement around our event is contagious, and we can't wait to share the experience and create lasting memories with our community.”
The event offers three levels of running with a 10K run, a 5K run/walk, and a 1-Mile Fun Run.
"In-person events will take place at the Niles-Buchanan YMCA, 905 N. Front St., Niles," organizers said. "The 10K run will begin at 8 a.m., the 5K will begin at 8:05 a.m. and 1-Mile Fun Run will begin at 8:15 a.m."
Organizers say virtual participants can run or walk their event anywhere such as in neighborhoods, parks and on treadmills—between Nov. 28 and Dec. 7.
"Upon completion, virtual runners can upload their run information to an online race platform," race organizers said. "Participants are also encouraged to share their race photos on social media using the hashtag #2024TDR."
Runners must be registered to participate, and the fee is $45.
