National Night Out events in Michiana on August 1
Area law enforcement agencies and neighborhood groups are holding National Night Out events on August 1.
BENTON HARBOR/BENTON TOWNSHIP
The Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety, the Benton Township Police Department, and the Benton Manor Cooperative Neighborhood Watch Program, will celebrate the 3RD ANNUAL NATIONAL NIGHT OUT program. The event will be held on Tuesday August 1, 2017 beginning at 5:00PM in downtown Benton Harbor at the Dwight P. Mitchell City Center Park.
The celebration will have free food, snow cones, games and a book bag giveaway for kids. All citizens of Benton Harbor/Benton Township are encouraged to come and support positive relations between public servants and the community.
BERRIEN SPRINGS AND ORONOKO TOWNSHIP
On Tuesday, August 1st, neighborhoods throughout the Berrien Springs and Oronoko Twp. Area are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for our eighth annual National Night Out
From 5:30pm to 7:30pm at Grove Park, in Berrien Springs, there will be a display of public safety equipment. Participating agencies are: Berrien Springs-Oronoko Twp PD, Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept., Michigan State Police, Medic-1, and the Berrien Springs Fire Dept.
In addition to passing out various kinds of crime prevention and safety related items, the BSOTPD will be encouraging residents to sign up for free home security surveys as well as seeking neighborhoods interested in Neighborhood Watch.
Activities for the kids will include a “bounce house”, face painting, sidewalk chalk art and spraying a fire hose.
Free food will be available during the event with pizza from Pizza Hut, hot dogs, veggie hot dogs, chips and soft drinks. Sponsors include Pizza Hut, Harding’s, Honor Credit Union and Trinity Lutheran Church. This is a free event and all are welcome!
From 8-10 p.m. on Tuesday August 1st, residents in the Berrien Springs-Oronoko area are encouraged to turn on their front porch lights in a symbolic show of support of local crime prevention efforts.
LAKEVILLE
Mark your calendars for the National Night Out Against Crime which will be held on Tuesday, August 1 from 5:30 to 8:00 pm at Newton Park in Lakeville, IN. The event is totally free to attend, free food, fun, information, demos and giveaways. You don't want to miss it!
MISHAWAKA
Mishawaka Neighborhood Watch Associations will be hosting events for National Night Out on August 1
- Hillis Hans Watch - 14th Street and Michigan from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Twin Branch Watch 3900 Lincolnway East from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- East 4th Street Watch Merrifield and 4th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
SOUTH BEND
The South Bend Police Department will host its annual National Night Out event from 5-7:30 pm on Tuesday, August 1, at the South Bend Police Department, 701 W. Sample Street. The event is free and open to the public.
The National Night Out event will include refreshments, entertainment, games, and giveaways. South Bend Parks and Recreation will have its rock climbing wall and inflatables on site; Little Caesars Pizza and Cops & Doughnuts will provide refreshments; and there will be demonstrations of a Police K-9 apprehending a criminal and a bomb-defusing robot.
South Bend residents are also encouraged to participate by turning on their home or porch lights beginning at 9 pm to show support for National Night Out and promote neighborhood safety.
