MPHPL receives $5,000 grant to host creative arts program for older adults
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.-- The Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library is proud to announce that it is receiving a $5,000 grant to host creative aging programming for older adults.
MPHPL is among 36 libraries to receive funding through Lifelong Arts Indiana, a program that promotes arts and creativity services for older adults.
“We are thrilled to use this grant to host two, five-week Colorful Creations art series for adults in the Michiana community,” said MPHPL community engagement coordinator Stephanie Maggart.
Both art series will be held at the downtown Mishawaka Library, 209 Lincolnway East, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The first series of events, acrylic painting, will be held on Tuesdays: August 6, 13, 20, 27 and September 3. Participants will be able to socialize and connect with other guests each week as they continue to build their artistic painting skills. ‘Each week, participants will walk away with a unique canvas painting,” said Maggart.
The second series of events will be on watercolor painting. The dates for this topic will be held on the following Mondays: September 23, 30, October 7, 14 and 21. Guests will learn the basics of watercolor painting while socializing and connecting with others. Each week, participants will leave with their unique watercolor painting.
“Adults 60 and up are welcome to register for both five-week art series or just one. Seating is limited and will fill on a first-come-first-served basis as folks visit our online mphpl.org events calendar to register,” said Maggart.
This grant is made possible in part by the Indiana Arts Commission, which receives support from the State of Indiana and the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Indiana Family and Social Services.
