Motorcyclist injured after crashing while avoiding deer Thursday night

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to a motorcycle crash on Thursday around 11:40 p.m. at the roundabout on Gumwood and Redfield in Milton Township.

The report states the 58-year-old Elkhart woman was riding her motorcycle north on Gumwood when a deer ran into the road.

The woman attempted to avoid the animal which caused her to lose control and hit the curb.

The motorcyclist suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment.

She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Authorities say alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
