Motorcyclist arrested, charged with felonies, after fleeing from police Tuesday morning

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department reports an arrest was made on Tuesday following a police pursuit with a motorcycle that started in Elkhart and ended on S.R. 4 in Elkhart County.

Wednesday, a judicial officer found probable cause for the arrest of 31-year-old Harry W. Bice, of Goshen, and set his bond at $25,000.

The report states on Tuesday, an EPD officer on patrol in the 100 block of W. Hively Avenue witnessed a Harley-Davidson motorcycle displaying stolen registration.

The officer then activated his emergency lights and sirens to conduct a traffic stop.

Police say Bice disregarded the officer's attempt.

Officers notified dispatch of the pursuit at around 10:55 a.m., as Bice fled east on E. Carlton Avenue from Prairie Street.

More officers joined the pursuit, along with officers with the Goshen Police Department and Middlebury Police Department.

With their assistance, the pursuit ended when the motorcycle drove off the north side of S.R. 4, going into the grass and continuing into a field of corn at 16523 S.R. 4.

Police say a brief foot pursuit of Bice ensued.

EPD officers took Bice into custody around 11:15 a.m.

Authorities' investigation revealed the Harley was reported stolen to the Goshen City Police.

Officers took Bice for evaluation and treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, before taking him to the Elkhart County Jail.

Bice was booked on preliminary charges of Resisting Law Enforcement in a Motor Vehicle, a Level 6 Felony, Operating a Motor Vehicle as a Habitual Traffic Violator, a Level 6 Felony, and Criminal Trespass, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Bice was also booked on an outstanding warrant out of Elkhart County Superior Court.

The case has been forwarded to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for review of formal criminal charges.
