ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Fire Department reports crews responded to a possible structure fire at Old Farm Apartments at 803 G Ln. around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Fire officials say they arrived on scene to light smoke coming from the front door while people were evacuating.

Firefighters then made entry into the building where they found fire in the hallway.

The report states crews also used ground ladders to rescue occupants from their balconies.

The fire was extinguished and the Red Cross and apartment complex management worked to find places for the displaced residents.

No injuries have been reported at his time and the cause of the fire remains under investigation
