SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Today, three Michiana veterans touched by war, were honored by Veteran Affairs and Quilts of Valor South Bend at the Jackie Walorski Clinic in Mishawaka.
Gunner's mate Frank Jankowski, Warrant Officer Henry Schaller, and Gunnery Sergeant Howard Killarney all served in World War II and share the same birthday, June 28.
The trio celebrated their birthdays together this year, as they are now all 100-years-old or older.
Quilts of Valor honor them in their mission to provide comfort and healing to those that have served in our nation's wars.
"We were honored to be able to give quilts to these centenarians and the greatest generation, it's very emotional to be able to do this and I'm glad we're included when they do these ceremonies," states Erica Broecker of Quilts of Valor South Bend.
Visit the Quilts of Valor website if you have a veteran who served that you would like to nominate.
