Marshall County prosecutor candidates outline 'immediate fixes' with incumbent not running for re-election
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- In Marshall County's republican primary prosecutor race, Joe Morris and Nicholas Langowski are competing for the spot. Incumbent prosecutor Nelson Chipman Jr. is not running for re-election.
One thing is clear between both candidates; they have things they want to fix immediately once taking office.
Joe Morris has been an attorney for around 30 years, and says this time spent in law gives him a good perspective for how to do the job. One thing he says he feels is lacking in the Marshall County prosecutor position currently is transparency, and giving taxpayers and voters a chance to make their voice heard.
"I think sometimes, we get lost as government employees, or they've gotten lost as government employees as to who pays their bills, and that's taxpayers. That attitude of service should flow through every single person in the office, everything that we do, I think there's times where they have a nice open door policy at the prosecutor's office for officers to be able to come in any time they want to, but I don't think they always feel welcome when they walk in the door," said Morris.
Nick Langowski is the current chief deputy of the Marshall County prosecutor's office. A big emphasis for Langowski has been a desire to improve how they relay information with law enforcement, to help make things more seamless for the prosecutor and for police as well.
"Make it easier for law enforcement officers to communicate with the office, turn in reports, and then I also want to internally, streamline the process of which we file cases, get cases in front of the court, and make the office more accessible to the public," said Langowski.
