Man sentenced after pleading guilty to fatal hit and run

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Official documents from the St. Joseph Superior Court state Robert Blankenship plead guilty to Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in the Death of Another Person, regarding the February hit and run which killed 19-year-old Varinder Singh.

Singh was riding his bike in the 1100 block of 12th Street in Mishawka when he was hit around 6:17 a.m. on February 13.

Blankenship has been sentenced to a total of eight years, including four years in jail through the Indiana Department of Correction, two years of home detention through Michiana Community Corrections, and two years of probation.

His driver's license was also suspended for six years.

Blankenship was sentenced on Wednesday, July 24.
