Man arrested for breaking into home and attacking homeowner with machete

Elkhart Police Department

ELKHART, Ind. --  On July 18th at approximately 4:17 a.m., a female homeowner called the Elkhart Police Department to report that her husband, Christopher Edwards, with whom she has a personal protective order, was in her home and attacking her boyfriend.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and located Christopher outside the residence. During a search of Edwards' officers located a baggie containing a white crystal substance in his front pocket, which was later identified as meth.

The boyfriend observed a noise coming from the garage, thinking a homeless person was breaking in. After opening the door, he located Christopher Edwards standing there with one hand behind his back.

The homeowner's boyfriend then tried to shut the door, but Edwards kicked it down, attacking her boyfriend with a machete, slashing his left arm.

The personal protective order was served to Edwards on July 3, 2025, and a day later, he was arrested for invasion of privacy. He bonded out on July 16, only two days before again violating the protection order against his wife.
