BREAKING: Man arrested and charged for Monday's fatal U.S. 6 hit and run

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- The La Porte County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in connection to the fatal hit and run crash between a vehicle and pedestrian that killed Keith A. Eastwood on Monday morning in the 11800 west block of U.S. 6.

Forty-eight-year-old Troy L. Slack is in custody after authorities say significant evidence from the suspect vehicle was recovered at the scene.

"The same evidence assisted and narrowed the search by color, approximate year, and manufacturer for a suspect vehicle," the LCSO said. "Detectives identified a suspect vehicle in the Flock Safety camera database that had been traveling on U.S. 6 during the timeframe of when the crash occurred."

On Tuesday morning, Captain Andy Hynek located the suspect vehicle in the 700 block of Capital Road in Porter County and Slack was taken into custody. He was taken to the LCSO before an arrest warrant could be issued on Wednesday morning, and he is now housed int he La Porte County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond.

"The vehicle was impounded from the property and transported to a secure facility," the LCSO said.

Eastwood was found by a citizen who had been traveling along U.S. 6 at around 6 a.m. and pronounced dead at the scene.

Slack is charged with Leaving the Scene - Causing Death, a Level 4 Felony.
