Man allegedly commits armed robbery, flees police, drives into river

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Berrien Springs Oronoko Township Police Department reports officers responded to the BP Pri-mart Gas Station at 8736 M-139 Hwy around 1:29 a.m., Sunday, for a hold up alarm.
Officers arrived and confirmed an armed robbery had occurred and the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Joshua Michael Bevans of Berrien Springs, had fled the scene.
Bevans fled with an undetermined amount of US currency.
The report states Bevans produced a handgun and fired a shot past an employee before leaving.
The employee was uninjured.
Two hours later, police found Bevans and his vehicle at the Speedway Station in Berrien Springs.
Officers approached Bevans who fled in the vehicle on S. Main Street and drove into the St. Joseph River at the dead end of the street.
The suspect was apprehended and taken to the Berrien County Jail.
Bevans was arraigned on Monday.
