They are hosting an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. at both LaSalle and Western Public Branches to give the community a chance to see the results of their feedback and meet the architects while enjoying refreshments.
St. Joe County Public Library Communications Manager Daniel Lichty says the Western Branch location has plans to relocate while the LaSalle Branch will undergo major changes.
“We are moving our Western Branch, we're actually moving it right on Western Avenue, so we have purchased the old Falcons building and we're going to be renovating that area and moving our branch over to that spot,” said Lichty. “The LaSalle branch is staying put, no changes there other than a nice big addition and for that building to meet the needs of the community. We have a large amount of individuals that kinda flock there after school so it will be a great place to kinda take that capacity on."
After the $10 million investment to renovate both branches, the plan is to expand space, improve services, and upgrade all ten facilities within the next 10 years.
Officials ensure that the upcoming renovations will not come at any cost to residents.
“There is no tax impact with those funds the way we structured our finances for that will not increase taxes at all for our community so $1.7 million of that is completely funded by the library's own savings fund,” said Lichty.
There is no official end date, but the project is expected to begin later this year and during these major changes they plan to do everything they can to prevent any disruptions during renovations.
