Loveway hosting a volunteer interest session to help kids with disabilities
MIDDLEBURY, Ind. -- A local non-profit is offering the community a chance to help a child with disabilities unlock their full potential while enjoying the thrill of horseback riding.
On December 3rd they will host an informative hour-long Interest meeting, one from 12-1 p.m. During the session volunteers will learn about their mission, tour the stables and learn the day-to-day operations and the importance of your volunteer role at Love Way.
They have a goal to recruit 3 volunteers for each child to ensure that each child is taken care of and with 160 kids that is a total need of at least 500 volunteers.
The bond between the children and horses is expected to be more than just a therapeutic experience but a chance to be transformative as they learn motor and horseback riding skills that they can carry over to real life experiences.
Loveway offers 3 programs: Adaptive writing for elementary kids, Advanced Horsemanship for middle and high school students to work on their life skills and their Nosey Neighbor program where they visit other kids with disabilities that are homebound.
For 51 years, Loveway stands as an organization that is dedicated to making sure that on their 35 acres of land, alongside their team of 12 they continue to recruit the extra hands needed to ensure each student has the proper care they deserve.
Christy Synder, the Volunteer coordinator shares that no experience is needed, and they plan to provide all the training needed to be comfortable before you start your sessions.
“People think that you need to have experience with horses, with kids with disabilities all you have to do is come with a heart willing to serve to be with your student and be with your horses.” said Synder
Shelly Becker, the Executive Director says all volunteers need is to bring passion and willingness to make an impact.
“When a student walks through our doors, we don't know exactly what’s going to happen, but we know God has a plan for them and that something big is going to happen. Our program empowers our children because it gives them something that they can do when the rest of the world is telling them what they can’t do".said Becker
Dreams can’t come true without the help of volunteers. You can contact Loveway directly or visit their website to submit an application or schedule a tour if you're not able to attend the session.
