SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Father Felipe Campos of St. Adalbert and St. Casimir Catholic churches kept watch over the Vatican chimney alongside his students Tuesday morning, anticipating a historic moment.
Campos spent the morning on “chimney watch,” awaiting the traditional white smoke that signals the election of a new pope. When the smoke finally emerged, confirming the decision, Campos turned his attention to the students gathered around him.
“It’s a teachable moment for them, witnessing history and understanding the traditions of the Church,” Campos said.
