LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- LaPorte County Officers responded to reports of a crash involving a bicyclist and a commercial motor vehicle near S.R. 39 and C.R. 900 North.  The call came in at approximately 11:59 a.m. Friday. 

The investigation shows that a group of bicyclists were riding south on the shoulder of S.R  39 approaching C.R 900 North.  A tractor-trailer combination was traveling south on S.R. 39, being operated by a 64-year-old Demotte man. The tractor-trailer then moved to the left in a passing zone to pass the group of bicyclists. 

One of the cyclists, identified as 29-year-old Mason R. Anderson of Chicago, began making a left turn onto C.R. 900 North. The driver of the trailer steered further left to avoid Anderson, but Anderson collided with the trailer. 

Mason Anderson was pronounced dead on the scene. Toxicology test results are pending. No further information is available for release.
