LA PORTE, Ind. -- An officer with the La Porte Police Department arrived at the NYBE Apartment Homes Office around 7:58 p.m. on Aug. 15 for a domestic dispute.
Dispatch informed the officer the 22-year-old suspect, later identified as Hailey Murphy, was intoxicated and yelling at her boyfriend after she smashed their vehicle's windshield in the parking lot.
Murphy is charged with Battery Against a Public Safety Official, a Level 6 Felony, Domestic Battery, a Misdemeanor, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Misdemeanor, Disorderly Conduct, a Misdemeanor, and Public Intoxication, a Misdemeanor.
The boyfriend was in the parking lot with the property manager when the officer arrived.
Murphy is alleged to have assaulted the boyfriend inside their apartment before the argument led outside. Murphy then jumped on the hood of their car and began kicking the windshield.
Murphy was in the apartment when the officer arrived. The boyfriend then showed the officer cellphone video he captured of Murphy kicking the car's windshield. The vehicle was found to be registered in her name.
The video also showed Murphy beginning to punch the boyfriend in torso and the sides of his shoulders.
Police noted the vehicle's windshield was damaged.
When Murphy came out to the parking lot, she began yelling at her boyfriend at which point the officer began to handcuff her. Police say she pulled away and kicked her boyfriend in the stomach area.
Murphy continued to struggle, and the officer stated he smelled alcohol emitting from her as he escorted her to the patrol vehicle.
Once handcuffed and inside the vehicle, she undid her seatbelt and began aggressively kicking the back passenger side window.
When the officer opened the door, the report states that's when she began kicking him in the chest repeatedly, causing the gear on his tactical vest to fall on the ground.
Another officer then went from the other side of the vehicle and managed to contain her to restrain her legs. Police say her disorderly behavior continued while taking her to the La Porte County Jail.
Murphy's first court hearing is Oct. 29.
