Irish open the season with a 105-61 win over Mercyhurst at home
SOUTH BEND, Ind -- The Irish start the season on the right foot. Every player in the starting lineup scored double digit points, including Olivia Miles with her fourth career triple double.
Sixth ranked Notre Dame is one of the best teams in the country and are on a lot of people's radar to win the National Championship. The road to the Final Four began Monday night in Purcell Pavilion.
Although fifth year Head Coach Niele Ivey is dealing with a few injuries, she's making the most of it to start the season. Only seven players touched the floor against the Lakers. Five ended with double digits in the scoring column: Liatu King (24), Kate Koval (18), Hannah Hidalgo (19), Cassandre Prosper (17), Olivia Miles (20).
There weren't a ton of expectations for Mercyhurst to actually be able to compete against Notre Dame, but that doesn't it any less impressive for Olivia Miles to earn her fourth career triple double. The most in program history with a final stat line of 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
"First, I want to start off with Olivia miles, her first game back, officially having a triple double, second most in ACC history. So phenomenal game, 20 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists. Just made some just spectacular passes. So, it was really amazing to watch. Ivey said.
"I was just talking to my to our videographer, about it, like we manifested it. He was like, first game back, I need a triple double, and I was like, alright, let me just let me try. But no, it's awesome to kind of see those, you know, meaningless words at the time, come to fruition, and then experience that, you know, with my teammates," Miles added.
