ABC 57

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The City of South Bend announced on Friday that the Ireland Road and Ironwood Drive Intersection Improvement Project is moving into Phase 2 with work shifting to the northeast corner of the intersection starting on Monday, April 21.

"During this phase, traffic through the intersection will remain limited to one through lane and one left turn lane," a city spokesperson said.

"Westbound traffic on Ireland Road will not be able to turn right onto Ironwood Drive. The detour route for Phase 2 will direct drivers west on Ireland Road, north on Miami Street, then east on Lincoln Way East. Graphics are attached for further clarification."

While the construction will cause delays and closures, the city said access to all businesses in the impacted areas will be maintained during construction.

Crews say the project includes a full reconstruction of the pavement, curb realignment and upgraded traffic signals.

"Construction is divided into six phases," a city spokesperson said. "Each phase could take up to 21 days to complete, weather permitting. Traffic restrictions and closures will vary as work progresses through each phase. The project is expected to be complete by early July, weather permitting."
