KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Associated Press has called the election for U.S. Representative for Michigan's 4th District, with incumbent Republican candidate Bill Huizenga receiving 232,079 votes, making up 56 percent of the vote.
Democratic candidate Jessica Swartz received 179,233 votes, making up 43 percent of the vote.
U.S. Taxpayers candidate Curtis Clark received 6,609 votes, making up 2 percent of the vote.
As of Wednesday, Swartz conceded in the race for Michigan’s 4th Congressional District:
Swartz put out the following statement:
“I am so proud of the movement we have built in Southwest Michigan, and while tonight’s results are not what we hoped for, this campaign was never about one election night, but rather our collective fight to protect workers, protect our Great Lakes, protect a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, protect parents’ ability to start and raise a family, and protect our democracy. I am grateful to my team for their hard work and our supporters for believing in our vision for a Southwest Michigan where we can put political polarization aside and work for the future we all deserve."
“Regardless of the outcome of this election, we have a lot of work ahead of us. I believe in our nation; I believe we must continue fighting to form a more perfect union; and I believe that when we come together, we can make a difference.”
