Local section of I-196 reopened Wednesday after three-year, $9.2M project

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- The Michigan Department of Transportation announced Wednesday afternoon that crews are wrapping up work on the Rogers Creek box culvert replacement under I-196 in southwest Van Buren County.

The project, which cost $9.2 million and took roughly three years to complete. A few additional weeks were needed due to fabrication complications with the concrete box culvert.

All lanes are reopened for the winter months.

"Work will resume in March 2025 to complete the culvert under the northbound lanes, between Mile Markers 8 and 10," MDOT said. "The project is expected to be completed in late October 2025. The new culvert will improve natural creek flow and has an expected lifespan of 50-100 years."

Based on economic modeling, this project is estimated to have directly and indirectly support 131 jobs.
