Humane Society of Elkhart County waives fees to accept donation for Toys for Tots
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The holiday season is near, and the Humane Society of Elkhart County is waiving adoption fees to accept Toys for Tots and spread holiday cheer to children in need in your community.
Toys for Tots is an initiative to gather unwrapped children's toys to be donated this holiday season.
Until the end of the month, they are waiving all adoption fees for both cats and dogs- just for donating toys. You can donate no matter if you choose to adopt or not.
Maria Waltersdorf, the Community Development Manager, says the shelter is at capacity, which is why there is an urgent need for people to give these animals a forever home.
“I was always the kid that asked for a puppy for Christmas right, so by coming now, you really get to get the family involved so that way you know that everyone likes the pet you're taking home, and everyone is all for it. It really is great and then you don’t have to worry about, 'Aww man,' on Christmas Day you don’t get the dog because they are closed on Christmas Day, but you can just have it now. Why not start the Christmas holidays early?” said Waltersdorf
Normal adoption fees are $25 for dogs and $10 for cats, but if you bring in an unwrapped toy you can skip those fees altogether.
The Humane Society says they have over 200 animals ready to adopt and there’s no better time than the holidays for this initiative.
Before you head to the humane society, there are a few things you need to know about the adoption process.
“You will need a leash or a collar for a dog but if you don't bring it, we sell it here and a cat carrier for a cat, which again if you don’t have it, we sell it here. We even sell ID tags that you can get for your new pet, custom engraved, and your photo ID,” said Waltersdorf.
This offer ends Nov. 30, so if you're looking to make an addition to your family for the holidays the Humane Society of Elkhart County may be a good place to start.
