'Hoops for Hope' fundraiser event to help raise awareness for pediatric cancer patients

 

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. -- The community came out to support Mattox Williams in his efforts to raise awareness.

17-year-old Mattox Williams was first diagnosed with osteosarcoma cancer in early 2022, before playing his final basketball game.

Nearly two years later, he organized "Hoops for Hope" to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer patients, like himself.

Mattox debuted the new foundation at the annual "War by the Shore" rivalry game between Lakeshore and St. Joe high school, the same matchup he played his final game in.

The event and game brought the community together and packed the stands with purple, supporting Mattox and those alike.
