SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Democratic candidate Ophelia Gooden-Rodgers has secured the District 2 seat for the South Bend Common Council, sweeping her competitor with 83% of the votes.
Gooden-Rodgers, who right now works with South Bend schools, now gets the chance to make change in the district she's been living in for more than 50 years.
"Since I’ve lived in the second district all my life, and I know some things that the second district needs, especially when it comes to cleanliness," she said. "And I know that we’re lacking in grocery stores, a pharmacy and we have some roads that are in really bad shape. So these things are things I already know about the second district, so I will be working towards those things next year."
This Election Day, Gooden-Rodgers is also making history alongside fellow common council members, as the council turns into a majority female- and minority-led group.
