FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- It's a first in the city of Fort Wayne.
Indiana's second-biggest fire department now has a new leader. Seventeen-year veteran Amy Biggs will become the first female chief.
She'll lead more than 380 firefighters posted at 18 different stations. The mayor made the announcement Wednesday. The current chief is retiring later this month.
According to Fort Wayne, Biggs now becomes one of about 40 female fire chiefs in the nation.
