Former Notre Dame employee charged for Child Pornography

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- UPDATE: Further information has been revealed about the events leading to Geoffrey Carter's arrest via the probable cause affidavit.

The following contains disturbing information.

Court documents state on Nov. 3, a 17-year-old, identified as Victim 1, came to the Mishawaka Police Department with their mother to file a police report regarding a criminal act between Carter and Victim 1.

Police say Victim 1 and their mom also provided a cell phone which belonged to Carter.

Documents state the cell phone contained disturbing photos and videos within the "hidden folder" section of the device.

Victim 1 was interviewed on Nov. 8, regarding the criminal act.

Victim 1 told police on Oct. 31 while staying at Carter's residence in Mishawaka, they were awoken by someone rubbing their leg.

They stated they then felt someone "squeezing" their buttocks.

Victim 1 told police that's when they turned over and saw Carter in the bedroom. Victim 1 went on to state they saw a camera flash and observed Carter tug/pull his pants up and quickly hide his cell phone.

Victim 1 also said that the blanket, which was covering them, was partially pulled up, exposing their buttocks, which was covered by blue boxers.

Documents state Victim 1 also observed a video of Carter masturbating, and Victim I was in the video, and it showed their buttocks, covered in blue clothing.


Documents state Victim 1 knew the passcode to Carter's Apple devices and a couple of days later, he searched through his camera roll and found several photos and videos within the "hidden folder" section of the device.

Law enforcement said included within this folder were videos and pictures of Victim 1 in Carter's apartment bathroom. These images displayed Victim 1 fully exposed and completely naked.

A search warrant was executed at Carter's residence where Apple iPads, computers, USB drives, and a fake smoke detector hidden camera were discovered.

Police say additional search warrants were executed on the devices, including the cell phone provided to law enforcement by Victim 1.

During the search of the cell phone, law enforcement discovered a driver's license and other identification cards belonging to Carter within the case.

Additionally, police say a photograph and video timestamped for Oct. 31, 2024, around 8:24 a.m. was found within the "hidden folder" section.

Police say the photo showed a black male touching the buttocks of another subject, the buttocks was covered in blue clothing.

Police say the video showed a man that appeared to be Carter over a sleeping subject wearing the same blue clothing, which appeared to be boxers.

Documents state the video then shows the camera being placed down and suddenly cuts off when the sleeping subject turns over.

Police interviewed Carter on Nov. 18, where he indicated he knew the victim.

Documents state Carter told police Victim 1 had been staying with him since October since the victim's mom was having housing issues. Carter indicated that Victim 1 was 17 years old.

Documents state Carter admitted to putting cameras in his bathroom and that they recorded Victim 1 in a state of undress and showed their genitalia.

Carter also indicated he had kept those photos on his phone. Police say Carter also admitted to touching Victim 1's buttocks while they slept and recording himself masturbating while standing over Victim 1.


ORIGINAL STORY: A former Notre Dame Recruitment Coordinator, 36-year-old Geoffrey Carter, was arrested Nov. 18 and charged with the following:

  • Child Exploitation 
  • Possession of Child Pornography 
  • Sexual Battery
  • Child Seduction
  • Voyeurism using a camera 

The University of Notre Dame released a statement saying:

"Earlier this week, the University was made aware that a now former employee was arrested and charged in St. Joseph County. We have and will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement."

Additionally, Carter is also listed as Musical Arts Indiana's Director of the Children's Choir of Michiana. 

Executive Director of Musical Arts Indiana Laurie Myers made a statement saying:

"We're incredibly disappointed and saddened by the criminal allegations made against Geoffrey Carter, who was the director of the Children's Choir of Michiana. The safety and security of all participants in the children's choir is of utmost concern to us, and Mr. Carter will no longer be affiliated with our organization. At this time, we have no reason to suspect that any member of Children's Choir of Michiana was a victim, but we are offering support and resources to all of our families during this challenging time."

 Carter is now being held at St. Joseph County Jail, with a court date set for Dec.2.
