Former basketball star Demetrius Jackson charged with Battery after alleged incident at Marian High School basketball practice

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Documents from St. Joseph County Superior Court reveal former Marian High School and Notre Dame basketball star Demetrius Jackson is facing two misdemeanor Battery charges in connection with an alleged March 10 incident.

The charges stem from a battery complaint during a March 10 Marian boys basketball practice.

According to court documents, Jackson allegedly headbutted Brandon Foster, a player on the team, and grabbed him by the neck.

When Assistant Coach Brian Foster, Brandon's dad, intervened, Jackson allegedly headbutted and shoved him as well.

Jackson told a Mishawaka police detective he was instructed to be physical with players in practice to get them ready for a big game.

The detective reviewed video footage and talked to four other witnesses; all of whom said nobody was encouraged to play extra physical in practice.

The Marian High School basketball court is named after Jackson.

Former Marian boys basketball Head Coach Robb Berger was fired a week ago in the wake of the incident.

Berger was suspended for a playoff game in early March, for an IHSAA rule violation.
