Failure to yield the right of way sends one to hospital, teen driver cited
ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to U.S. 20 and C.R. 35 in Middlebury around 11:53 a.m., Monday, for a two-vehicle crash.
The report states a 2016 BMW X1X, driven by 18-year-old Nitza Lozada of Goshen, was traveling east on U.S. 20 and turned left to head north on C.R. 35.
Authorities state a 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by a 30-year-old Elkhart woman, was traveling west on U.S. 20 at C.R. 35.
The report states as the Chevy traveled straight across the intersection, Lozada turned left in front of it, causing the Chevy to strike the front of Lozada's BMW.
The Chevy's driver complained of abdominal pain and was taken to Elkhart General Hospital.
Lozada was uninjured.
Both vehicles were towed due to front end damage and airbag deployment.
Lozada was cited for failure to yield the right of way, and deputies say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
