Elkhart Police Department releases public advisory regarding TikTok 'birthday party' scam

ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department released a public advisory statement regarding a recent local "birthday party" scam/prank circulating on TikTok.

Police say multiple people and media outlets have contacted them about a video circulating on TikTok by a user named “saramarie," claiming she's a widow and is throwing herself a birthday party at an address on Homan Avenue in Elkhart on October 5.

The viral video asks individuals to come to the party, but not to bring gifts.

EPD confirmed the individual depicted in the video does not live at the Homan Avenue address, and there is no birthday party.

The resident that lives at this house did not create the videos, is not having a birthday party, and respectfully asks that individuals do not come to her residence.

EPD says there is no indication of an active threat, but they will conduct area checks in the vicinity out of an abundance of caution.
