Elkhart man sentenced to prison for 2018 bank robbery

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- A 62-year-old Elkhart man will spend just over 4 years in prison after pleading guilty to Bank Robbery, according to the United States Attorney’s Office Northern District of Indiana.

On April 21, Jerry Boomershine was sentenced to 4 years in prison with another 3 months to be served concurrently for his state sentence.

Boomershine was also sentenced to 1 year of supervised release following his prison sentences.

He was also ordered to pay $8,450 in restitution.

Case documents reveal Boomershine robbed Goshen Bank in May 2018 while wearing a mask.

Documents state Boomershine pointed a gun at employees before stealing about $8,450. Police recovered the sweatshirt he was wearing at the time.

Authorities say in April 2025, a sample of Boomershine's DNA was compared to DNA found on the sweatshirt, leading to his arrest.
