MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- With homecoming on the line and the NIC crown in sight, Penn took to their home field with a purpose against Elkhart.
Penn got on the board first, putting up a field goal just four minutes into the game to take the early 3-0 lead. But Elkhart wasted no time responding.
Lions senior quarterback Quinn Rost connected on a deep pass down the far-left sideline, bringing Elkhart to an inch closer to the end zone.
Rost later hit wide receiver running back Connor Dow on a quick slant, and he drove it in for the touchdown.
The Lions nailed the extra point, bringing Elkhart to 7-3 just before halftime.
The second half was a defensive battle for both teams as they traded blows but struggled to find the end zone. Penn’s offense couldn’t get much going against Elkhart's defense.
Elkhart holds on to win, 7 to 3, extending their winning streak to 6 games, a perfect 5-0 in the Northern Indiana Conference.
The Lions will take on Mishawaka Marian next week, while Penn will look to bounce back against New Prairie.
