Elkhart home damaged by fire
ELKHART, Ind -- A home on Pierre Moran Avenue in Elkhart was badly damaged by a fire Tuesday morning.
The fire started in the garage and spread to the kitchen. It caused extensive damage to the home.
Five engines, a ladder truck and two medics responded to the scene.
One person was inside the house at the time of the fire but got out safely. The family’s dog also got out safely.
The family has lived in the home for eleven years.
Joe Orozco lives across the street from the home where the fire happened.
He was sitting on his front steps when he saw smoke coming from his neighbor’s back yard.
"I knocked on the door and he came out and I was like, ‘Your house is on fire bro,’” said Orozco.
Orozco then called 911.
