Elkhart High School substitute teacher charged with Child Seduction

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- The Elkhart Police Department has arrested 25-year-old Elkhart High School substitute teacher Autum Ringer and charged her with one count of Child Seduction where a childcare worker engages in fondling or touching with child 16-17 years of age.

Case reports show that on March 28, EPD received information that Ringer had an inappropriate sexual relationship with student.

During the investigation, 16-year-old victim was interviewed and first denied that anything sexual had happened between him and his Study Hall teacher.

Later in the investigation, the victim admitted that one night he snuck out and had Ringer pick him up. The two went back to her apartment, but he claimed nothing sexual happened.

When police were interviewing Ringer, she told officers she did have sexual intercourse with a student, but he was 18 years old.

Authorities were able to get a search warrant for Ringer's cell phone, and while reviewing the download of her phone on April 17, detectives found nude photos of Ringer and male genitalia.

Detectives also found messages on the phone where Ringer discusses having sex with a student

As result of the cell phone download, Ringer was again interviewed. This time, authorities say, she admitted to having sexual intercourse with her student, but claimed she believed the victim was 17 years old at the time.

Ringer was hired by Elkhart Community Schools on February 5.

ABC57 has reached out to Elkhart Community Schools for comment but they did not immediately response.
