Elkhart Fire Department to start storm debris burn Monday, trees and brush only
ELKHART, Ind. -- The Elkhart Fire Department announced it's received a 60-day burn permit from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to burn trees and brush from Monday night's storm.
The burn is set to begin at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 22, at Elkhart’s Toledo Road site.
City officials say the burn will go from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., every day until it is no longer needed.
The burning will not happen if winds are too high, on an Air Quality Action Day, or if a burn ban is in place.
The burn will be supervised by city staff and fire personnel.
Officials say only tree limbs and brush will be burned.
City officials also state it's critical for storm debris to be properly separated.
Anyone with questions should call Elkhart's non-emergency number, (574) 293-2175.
See the FEMA diagram below for separation guidance.
