Elkhart County 4-H Fair begins

ELKHART CO., Ind. -- It's one of the largest county fairs in the country, and attracts around 250,000 people every year.

The Elkhart County Fair is in full swing.

Believe it or not, bacon is really popular out there this year. Bacon elephant ears are in high demand, along with other bacon-flavored items such as bacon banana boat ice cream and bacon flavored corn dogs.

ABC 57's Judi Lykowkski test tasted the bacon items along with some teens she recruited and they all gave the items thumbs up! Viri Hernandez of Goshen said the bacon elephant ear reminded her of something she's eat for breakfast.

Kristy Ambrosen the 4-H Marketing Director for the Elkhart County Fair said, "This year we have bacon everything, bacon corn dogs, bacon elephant ears, hot fudge bacon banana splits, so bacon is the theme for us."

A new exhibit this year which is already popular is the sea lion show that takes place three times each day.

Back by popular demand the miracle of life birthing unit, where you can watch a cow give birth. However, if that's to much for you, there's literally hundreds of other events or venues you can check out like the chopper rides, 4-H animal exhibits or catch a concert.

Ambrosen said, "we start our concert series off with Styx on Saturday night at 8pm of course it's free grand stand and reserve track seats are still available for 25 dollars each."

Price for admission into the fair is $8 and children 9 years and under get in free. Ride vouchers are $18 dollars.
