ELKHART, Ind. -- 18 Elkhart Community Schools Career Center students signed letters of intent on Monday to return to Elkhart Schools once they’ve completed their degrees.
Many think of student athletes when signing letters of intent, but Elkhart Schools used the process to ensure that some of their graduates will return to the community after finishing college.
The letter of intent guarantees a job for these graduates straight out of school.
The process has also been put together to help combat teacher shortages nationwide.
While it’s not expected that every student returns to Elkhart community schools, School Superintendent, Dr. Larry Huff, says that even four to five students returning to ECS would be considered a win.
Students expressed their gratification, as well as their excitement at having a job ready for them once they complete college.
