Elkhart Clinic main campus to remain closed for at least another month

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Elkhart Clinic COO Sara Koziel announced via a Facebook video that the recent mystery vapor, which caused the main campus to close, was tested and revealed to be something in the gasoline/petroleum family.

The source is still unknown but is external to the building, according to Koziel.

To make the building safe she stated that they're starting a project with their environmental health and safety consultants, which will involve installing a vapor intrusion mitigation system.

She adds that the consultants will also bore into the soil outside of the clinic to get better samples to find the source.

They will also be sealing the walls and ceiling in the clinic's basement.

The Indiana Department of Emergency Management has also been closely involved with the clinic throughout the process.

Koziel expects the main campus to reopen within the next three to four weeks.
